Today's Gospel reading begins with perhaps the most well known passage of Scripture - John 3:16. In the first reading from Acts 5, we read the story of a miraculous prison break, which included a message from the angel of the Lord.
"The angel of the Lord opened the doors of the prison, led them out, and said, 'Go and take your place in the temple area, and tell the people everything about this life.'"
"Everything" is a pretty big word. All encompassing. How could the Apostles tell the people everything about this life? If you had to boil that down to its essence, what would you say? Perhaps John 3:16 is a great start. How about this: This earthly life is short, eternity is forever. Put your faith, hope and trust in Jesus Christ. Read the Bible, study the Catechism. Follow the Golden Rule. Love God, and love your neighbor as yourself. Did I miss anything?
Father, may we be open to learning everything about this life, so that our eternal life may be with you, through your Son Jesus Christ. Amen.
