Surviving the Storms

Posted on

The theme of today's readings is a strong house. In the first reading from Isaiah 26, it is referred to in the context of a city and a nation. And in the Gospel reading from Matthew 7, Jesus talks of a house.

"Everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and buffeted the house. But it did not collapse; it had been set solidly on rock." He then gives the reverse of that story.

I've never met anyone who has lived a life without storms. And I'm not talking about the weather. Neither was Jesus. We all go through tumultuous times. And the only way to survive is to make sure our (spiritual) house is built on Rock. Jesus is that Rock. Listen to His words and act on them and you will survive the storms which will invariably come your way.

Father, we trust in the Lord Jesus. May our actions bear that out each day. Amen.
