Using Your Gift

Posted on

Do you have life verse? This is a passage of Scripture that kind of sums up your life and mission, one that speaks to you and of you. Well, part of today’s first reading is my life verse. 1 Peter 4:7-11. Read it for yourself. I’ll talk more about it in a sec. In today’s Gospel reading from Mark 11, Jesus talks about the importance of faith in prayer.

“The end of all things is at hand. Therefore be serious and sober for prayer. Above all, let your love for one another be intense, because love covers a multitude of sins. Be hospitable to one another without complaining. As each one has received a gift, use it to serve on another as good stewards of God’s varied grace. Whoever preaches, let it be with the words of God; whoever serves, let it be with the strength that God supplies, so that in all things Goid may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.”

Notice that St. Peter says, “AS each one has received a gift…” and not “IF someone has received a gift.” In other words, we have all been given a gift. St. Peter wants to emphasize that we must use that gift to serve and glorify God. With that in mind, it’s another great time to think about how we are using the gift(s) that God has given us. Are you being a good steward of God’s varied grace?

Father, we thank you for giving us a unique gift; one that only we possess. Help us to use it to serve you and build up your Kingdom. Amen.
