Today is the Feast of Sts. Joachim and Anne, Jesus' grandparents, Gus unofficially declares it Grandparents Day and invites listeners to call in and talk about their grandkids or grandparents. He offers a free Good Morning Child of God sticker to first-time grandparents who come on the air with him.
Also, in honor of the Feast of Sts. Joachim and Anne, Gus is joined by his oldest grandson Beckett. Beckett made some local headlines in the Tampa area earlier this year when he was struck in the eye by a baseball while pitching and had to go to the hospital. Afterwards, he got a lot of support from people, including one of the top high school prospects in the nation, Caden McDonald, paying him a personal visit and throwing out the first pitch at a Sickles High School baseball game. He talks about that scary moment with his grandad as well as playing in the state tournament, his favorite school subjects and making his first holy communion.
And Fr. Leo Patalinghug calls in to talk with Gus about today's feast day and about his relationship with his grandparents and the role of grandparents in their grandchildren's faith lives. Also, they talk about World Youth Day, which kicks off on Wednesday, August 1st and their Danube River Cruise Pilgrimage in September.
